Working & Innovation
Splicing of veneer faces

After the veneer leaves have been cut in their own specific way, they are worked again. Leeuwenburgh Fineer produces several products from this raw veneer known as the ligna-line. The veneer used for the various products can the jointed in a specified pattern, called splicing.

The optical effect of the spliced faces is strongly influenced by the way the way the leaves are spliced together. The 3 widely used methods are: slip matching, book matching and random matching.

When slip matching the leaves are jointed together in exact the same order as they came off the cutting process. When book matching the sequence of the leaves is also respected, but every other leave is turned like opening a book. When random matching, the leaves are deliberately mixed to create a solid-lumber look.

Because book matching the veneer leaves creates a nice symmetrical effect, this is the most common and standardised way to splice faces. Only in specific circumstances slip matching and random matching is used: Leeuwenburgh Fineer has a lot of experience in this area and are happy to give advice.

Standard sizes of the ligna-line are: 244 x 122 cm, 250 x 122 cm, 275 x 125 cm and 305 x 122 cm.

Innovative products from spliced veneers Veneers are given an extra dimension in the Lignaflex, Lignapal, Lignacore line of products.

Processing veneers in a traditional way has quite a few disadvantages unfortunately; the splicing, bonding, and finishing is labour intensive, requiring specialist skills & equipment and can be really problematic. Leeuwenburgh Fineer has recognised this and has developed solutions in her ligna-line products. Every product in the ligna-line in a concept that offers the perfect solution to processing problems of raw veneers as the jointing, colour consistency and uniformity. In this way it is very easy to control the technical and cost aspects of your veneering.
